Un'common Story

Un'common is a furniture design studio from Łódź, Poland.

We design furniture from stone, travertine, and wood. Each piece is created in collaboration with local specialists. The proximity of the process is very important to us - we are there from the first sketch to the last detail.

How it Started

We didn't plan it that way.

Gosia graduated in architecture – years spent on large projects, train stations, public spaces. Maciek graduated in economics. We were life partners long before we became work partners.

Change came slowly. After years of large-scale design, there was a need to create something more personal. Something tangible. Postgraduate studies in product design at the Łódź Academy of Fine Arts led to the first sketches. The first prototypes. And then – stone.

We've been building Un'common for almost ten years. What started quietly, almost accidentally, has become something we dedicate ourselves to completely.

Why Stone

It wasn't a calculation. It was intuition. Stone is extracted through hard work, directly from the earth. Each block carries the memory of millions of years. No two pieces are alike – the veining, porosity, and subtle imperfections are unique to each slab. In a world of synthetic surfaces and mass production, such material honesty is a rarity.

We don't want the stone to look flawless. We want it to be real. The weight in your hand. The coolness of the surface. How the light falls differently on a polished and a matte surface, or on a raw edge. We want our furniture to be something you want to touch – not just look at.

How we work

We don't have our own showroom. We work from our studio in Łódź, in a former city stable, and most of our production is local - carried out in close cooperation with artisans from the city and its surroundings.

Gosia designs all the furniture and is the brand's creative director. Maciek handles everything else: public relations, sales, international development, and B2B clients. He closes deals and makes bold decisions.

We stay close to production. We oversee every stage. The final result must be ours.

Lodz

Our city has a stark, post-industrial character that matured slowly and beautifully. The film school. Old factory districts. Unexpected nooks. It's an inspiring place, ideal for living and creating.

We have our sentimental places here. Housing estates where we bought our first apartment. Universities. The Academy of Fine Arts. Places that shaped how we look at things. We chose to stay here. We are happy with that decision.

Ten Years

In 2026, Un'common will be ten years old. During this time, we have exhibited at ICFF in New York, Milan Design Week, 3 Days of Design in Copenhagen, and Maison&Objet in Paris; we have also been to London and the Netherlands. We have shipped furniture to customers across Europe and the States. We have launched new collections, discovered new materials, and continuously approached what we want to convey. We are still here in Łódź, and although it's not always easy, we consistently do what we love. We are lucky.
